Contemporary Musical Modernisms at AMS
Along with Christine Dysers and Seth Brodsky I’m super excited to be running a session at the 2025 annual meeting of the American Musicological Society, on ‘Contemporary Musical Modernisms’. The purpose of the session is to explore what “musical modernism” might mean in the context of the music of today/”the contemporary”. This session will also be a key step towards formulating an AMS Study Group on this topic.
We are delighted to be joined by Amy Bauer (University of California Irvine), Chelsea Burns (University of Texas), Gabrielle Cornish (University of Wisconsin), Jessie Cox (Harvard University), Ryan Dohoney (Northwestern University), and Michael Gallope (University of Minnesota). As part of the session, we’ll all share short provocations, before moving into a structured discussion around the topic generally and the formulation of the Study Group in particular.
