Composition

I have written scores for documentary films and collaborative artistic projects. My music often blends traditional techniques from chamber and orchestral music, with electronic and digital resources including modular synthesisers. Some recent highlights can be found below.

Angel of Alabama

Documentary film score

dir. Elijah Yetter-Bowman (Ethereal Films, 2022)

This documentary explores investigator Brenda Hampton's work addressing environmental contamination in Alabama. In the score, I hope to reflect the complex mix of emotions that the film foregrounds – both the fragility and strength of the community and the figures represented.

The film’s appearance at festivals included opening The Huntsville Human Rights Film Festival.

Burned

Documentary film score

dir. Elijah Yetter-Bowman (Ethereal Films, 2023); executive produced by Mark Ruffalo

Burned picks up on some of the environmental themes of Angel of Alabama, this time exploring the impact of contaminants used in firefighters’ protective equipment. It charts the impact of consequent illnesses on firefighters and their families, as well as their investigations and response to these challenges.

Red was Blue

Sound art for live performance

My “domestic field recordings” provided an audio backdrop for Rebecca May Johnson reading of her text The recipe for blue was red, at an interdisciplinary performance event at Cafe Oto (London), later introducer her talk at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni Museum (Rome).

This 13-minute stereo piece, echoing the themes of Johnson’s text, incorporated extensive recordings of tomatoes cooking on the stove.
